SEMI PERMANENT MAKEUP

Semi-permanent make-up also known as permanent cosmetics, derma graphic art, micro-pigmentation or cosmetic tattooing is a procedure whereby minute particles of natural and synthetic iron oxide colour pigments are implanted a little more than 1.5mm below the skin surface using a hand piece tool that holds a sterile needle grouping. The depth varies depending on which area of the face is being pigmented.

What areas can I have treated at Elegant Ink?

We currently offer brow enhancement, eye liner (within the lash line only) and lip liner/blush.

How is this semi-permanent and not permanent?

A conventional tattoo is implanted into the skin at 3.5mm, below the exfoliating layers of the skin, whereas semi-permanent make-up is implanted at just under 2mm depending on the area of skin where colour is being implanted. Other factors include the inks (pigments) which are being implanted, a permanent tattooist would use inks that contain carbon, and carbon doesn’t leave the body easily whereas semi-permanent make-up artists use pigments that contain oxides which do.

How long does it last and factors that affect longevity?

Ideally semi-permanent make-up can last around 18 months to 5 years. It is important that it fades out as adjustment to the make-up is needed as the skin ages and changes in colour and texture.

BEFORE & AFTER

Is it safe?

IS IT SAFE?

At Elegant Ink, we take hygiene and safety very seriously. We have undergone training with the most highly regarded training provider in the UK. Alongside theoretical and practical training we have also completed an infection control course with ProTraining and practice Aseptic techniques during treatments. We are also proud to be licensed and registered with the local council upholding high standards in providing exceptional treatments.

We provide a thorough consultation and treatment selection combined with a patch test prior to treatment to check for any sensitivity to the anaesthetics and pigments used.

During your treatment we uphold the highest levels of hygiene by wearing protective equipment such as gloves, a face mask and ALL needles are single use and disposed of after treatment with a specialist waste disposal company.

What can I expect?

Initially you will need to come in for a consultation to ensure that you are suitable for treatment. During the consultation your colour requirements and desired look will be discussed and a patch test carried out. The patch test is to check for any sensitivity to the anaesthetic as well as the pigment used and must be carried out a minimum of 24 hours before the first procedure. At this stage we will also take a picture of you wearing make-up on the area to be treated if applicable.

The first treatment will take around 2.5 hours for brows and two hours for eye liner and lip liner. You will be given aftercare product if appropriate and asked to return for the second part of the treatment four weeks later.

Please note that each treatment will go through a healing phase, a peeling phase and then a fading phase. The true colour indication and finished result will not be apparent until the second treatment has completely healed (approximately a month after the second treatment).
